The grey city walls set to be transformed into stunning Nuart murals this summer have been unveiled by Aberdeen Inspired.

These “blank canvases” in the heart of the city will become vibrant works of art when the street art festival kicks off on Thursday June 9.

Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired which is behind the popular event, said: “Each year we appeal to property owners to become a part of Nuart Aberdeen through putting forward potential walls for our acclaimed artists to make their own during the festival.

“Our planning application has been submitted today and the range and number of walls included clearly demonstrates the support and positive impact the festival has had on the city.”

Walls to be painted include one at the Unite Students building in Spring Gardens, one on Shiprow, Union Wynd, Holburn House, Frederick Street Car Park, and more.

You can see all the walls which Aberdeen Inspired hopes to turn into works of art below:

Darren Scott, facilities manager at Union Plaza, said: “Union Plaza is excited to be part of the Nuart Aberdeen this year and look forward to watching the creation of another unique world-class mural on one of the rear walls of the building.”

Mr Watson added: “We’d like to thank every wall owner who contacted us with offers of walls. Without the walls the festival cannot take place and the property owners’ and the tenants’ part in this truly transformative event cannot be underestimated.

“The murals visibly strengthen the properties’ connection to the city and we really look forward to welcoming the artists to Aberdeen next month and watching them create outstanding public art for the city and its people.”

Thousands of people are expected to head into the city centre over the course of the Nuart festival – which will take place from Thursday June 9 until Sunday June 12 – to take in the murals and installations as they are created, as well as existing ones.

In total, 11 globally-acclaimed street artists will arrive in the Granite City next month to transform walls and spaces, all working under the theme of “Reconnect”.

Included in the line-up is Glasgow stencil artist James Klinge who makes his festival debut and also Spanish artist and activist Jofre Oliveras’ whose striking murals promise new connections with the city’s spaces.

We’ve also recently announced that the popular street food market Inspired Nights will return in June as part of the Nuart festival.

Inspired Nights will feature music, street food, bars and creative spaces for both children and adults. The street food market, which previously took place on The Green, will bring together a wide range of food and drink traders.

It will run all weekend on Broad Street from noon until 9pm on Friday and Saturday and until 6pm on Sunday.

In addition, free walking tours around the new art installations will kick off after the official launch ceremony and run at regular times on Saturday and Sunday.
