All you need to know about Sir Rod Stewart’s Aberdeen gig

Rod Stewart, who brought the curtain down at the AECC and was one of the first people to perform at P&J Live, will once again bring his distinctive raspy vocals to the Aberdeen venue.

Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming gig.

When and where will Rod Stewart perform?

Rod Stewart will bring his tour in support of his newest album The Tears Of Hercules to Aberdeen’s P&J Live on Friday December 2. Doors open at 6pm, with the support act taking to the stage at 7.15pm. Sir Rod Stewart is expected to kick off his show at 8.30pm.

What is Sir Rod Stewart best known for?

Rod Stewart’s music career began in 1962 when he took up busking with a harmonica. He later joined The Dimensions, Long John Baldry and the All Stars before moving to the Jeff Beck Group in 1967. He joined the rock band Faces in 1969 and released his debut solo album the same year.

Fast forward 10 number-one albums and 31 UK top-ten singles later, Rod Stewart is one the best-selling music artists of all time.

The hugely popular musician – and New York Times bestselling author – officially became ‘Sir Rod Stewart’ after being knighted by Prince William at Buckingham Palace for his services to music and charity in 2016.

The singer recently made the news after it was revealed he refused to perform at the Qatar World Cup despite being offered £1 million. In an interview with The Sunday Times, he said it was “not right to go”.

Which songs will he perform?

With an estimated 250 million records and singles sold worldwide, Rod’s upcoming gigs promise to be filled with show-stopping classics and new hits.

Fans can expect to sing along to hits such as Da Ya Think I’m Sexy, Maggie May, and All For Love, as well as singles from his 2021 album The Tears Of Hercules.

Who’s the support act?

Celtic-folk and Americana band Johnny Mac & The Faithful will support Rod Stewart in Aberdeen. The Glasgow-based band previously opened for the legendary singer at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro in 2017 at a concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of Celtic Football Club’s European Cup victory. The band supported Rod on his 2019 tour too.

Johnny Mac & The Faithful’s most popular songs include Let The People Sing, and Me Oh My.

How do I get to P&J Live to see Rod Stewart in Aberdeen?

Venue bosses would like to encourage gig-goers to use public transport.

Bus

Stagecoach will be operating its 727 Service between Union Square and P&J Live, running every 15-30 minutes.

Buses will depart back into Aberdeen city centre after the event is finished. These will depart from the front of the Hilton Hotel.

Car

Attendees can enter via Dyce Drive or A96 if travelling southbound, as other entry points are bus gates only. Visitors can exit via all three exits, at the A96, Dyce Drive and Wellheads Drive.

Will food and drink be available?

Yes, all P&J Live bars, kiosks and The Mill Coffee Shop will be in operation.
