It’s never too early to plan your calendar… Here are six big shows heading to Aberdeen’s HMT next year

It’s never too early to start planning your events calendar. We take a look at some of the big shows heading to the north-east in 2017.

1. Wonderland

This production is an enchanting musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

The UK tour of the multi Grammy, Tony and Drama Desk Award-nominated show follows sold out seasons in Tampa, Texas and Tokyo – and the new British production is sure to attract a big audience in Aberdeen.

In the tradition of the best stage musicals, Wonderland boasts a catchy score full of songs by Frank Wildhorn, writer of pop hits including Whitney Houston’s Where Do Broken Hearts Go?

It comes to Aberdeen’s HMT from May 16-20.

2. Blood Brothers

The legendary Blood Brothers, featuring the songs Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and Tell Me It’s Not True, returns to Aberdeen in March 2017. The acclaimed production tells the captivating tale of twins separated at birth, who meet again later in life with fateful consequences.

Catch it at HMT from March 20-25.

3. Woman in Black

Spine-chilling ghost story The Woman in Black promises to have audience members on the edge of their seat.

The ingenious stage adaptation of Susan Hill’s novel is a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror.

The gripping tale follows a lawyer obsessed with a curse he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black. He engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul.

It’s on at HMT from February 14-18.

4. The Crucible

Set in 17th century Salem, a group of teenage girls are discovered conjuring spirits – this is the story of The Crucible, which comes to HMT next year as a re-invigorated telling of Arthur Miller’s allegorical comment on McCarthyism.

It’s on from March 28-April 1.

5. Jane Eyre

A bold and dynamic reimagining of Charlotte Bronte’s masterpiece, Jane Eyre, comes to HMT following a critically acclaimed season at the National Theatre. The classic story of trailblazing Jane is as inspiring as ever in this collaboration between the National Theatre and Bristol Old Vic.

It’s on from August 28 to September 2.

6. Gangsta Granny

David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny promises to be fun for the whole family, featuring the amazing story of young Ben who visits his Granny for the weekend and embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.

Catch it from June 14-17.
