Wanted: Kissers of all experiences for public performance

An artist is appealing for Aberdonians willing to showcase some public displays of affection to star in an upcoming piece of performance art.

Rosanna Irvine is taking “Ah kissing” to the Granite City next month, after well-received performances in Nottingham and Glasgow.

It involves different pairs coming together silently and embracing, before “dissolving away” back into the streets of the city centre over the course of around 30 minutes.

The artist said: “People won’t expect the performance as it happens gradually – they’ll begin to congregate, then start kissing, or just gazing and holding one another.”

The performance has been arranged for Saturday, October 14, with a number of workshops and practice sessions planned beforehand.

A try out session is being held on Saturday at Citymoves from 3pm.

This will include include learning skills drawn from mindfulness and martial arts, in order to help participants enter a calm and collected mind space, and focus all of their attention on their partner during the performance.

Ms Irvine added: “My main intention is to reflect a commonality between people, especially in a time where there’s such divisiveness in the world.

“I’m looking for people of all ages, genders, abilities and ethnicities to get involved.”

A workshop for singles currently without a kissing partner, who are willing to pair up with a stranger “for art’s sake” will be held in October.

The artist said: “Most people who see the performance just smile and seem to be full of wonder, but everyone reacts differently.

“The last time we had someone shouting ‘Get a room’ at us.”
