Breeders from the north of Scotland led the charge at the Solway and Tyne Texel Breeders’ Club autumn show and sale in Carlisle.
Leading the sale at 30,000gn was a ram lamb from well-known north-east breeder Albert Howie, who runs the Knock flock at West Knock, Stuartfield, Peterhead.
The top price was paid for February-born triplet Knock Yankee, by Tophill Wall Street and out of a 4,500gn dam by Cambwell Trademark. He sold in a seven-way split to breeders from all corners of the UK including David McKerrow from Nochnary Farm, Cupar, Fife.
Next best at 15,000gn was February-born ram lam Strathbogie Yogi from Jim Innes’s Strathbogie flock at Dunscroft, Huntly.
By Millar’s Windbrook and out of a dam by Glenside Razzle Dazzle, he sold to RJ Teward & Son, New View, Staindrop, Darlington.
Thereafter the next leading price of 14,000gn was achieved twice for ram lambs, including a lot from Robbie Wilson’s Milnbank flock at North Dorlaithers Farm, Turriff.
Mr Wilson’s February-born Milnbank Yellowstone is by Glenside Willy Nilly and out of a dam by Strathbogie Untouchable. He sold to IM Jaeban, Forth House Farm, Cockermouth, Cumbria.
In the shearling ram section, Jim Innes dominated with lots from his Strathbogie flock.
A top of 7,800gn was achieved when March-2015 born Strathbogie Wild Boy went under the hammer.
By Aman Vyrnwy Dya and out of a dam by Carnew Trooper, he sold in a two-way split to Perthshire breeders Robert Cockburn at Errol, and Wood and Hunter, Dalchirla Farm, Muthill, Crieff.
Next best in the shearling section at 5,800gn was March-2015 born Strathbogie Willie, by Mullan Vivaldi and out of a dam by Glenside Razzle Dazzle. He sold in a two-way split to RC Ellis, Gwern-Y-Marl, Flintshire, Wales, and Messrs McCaffrey, Brooke Side, Cheshire.
In the females section, Perthshire breeder Robert Cockburn led the charge with a gimmer from his Knap flock.
By Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold and out of a dam by Baltier Rascal, she sold to Messrs Herdman, 86 Killysorral Road, Dromore, County Down, Northern Ireland.
Other leading prices included 4,500gn for a ram lamb from Brian Buchan’s Clinterty flock at New Aberdour, Fraserburgh.
Clinterty Yankee Doodle, by Tophill Wall STreet and out of a ewe by Ettrick Smasher, sold to D Gray, Sunnycroft, Selkirk.
In all Harrison and Hetherington sold 542 lots.
Averages were: 265 ram lambs to £1,264.40 (+£406.93); 179 shearling rams to £979.78 (+£262.86); one aged ram to £1,890 (+£1,387.75); 85 shearling gimmers to £845 (+£17.91); and 12 ewe lambs to £892.50 (+£505).
The sale also featured a draft of gimmers from the Allanfauld flock with 23 selling to average £957.60.
