Michael Seed's Bluefaced Leicester champion sold for 800gn

Bluefaced Leicesters sold to a top of 800gn at the Thainstone annual show and sale of rams.

Leading the charge was  the pre-sale show champion – a home-bred ram lamb from Michael Seed and Son, of Home Farm of Auchry, Cuminestown, Turriff.

His champion stood male champion at Turriff Show last month and is by the 1,800gn Craigyrorsedd G2. He sold to Craig Paterson of Foggie.

The next best price for the breed of 520gn was paid for another lot from Michael Seed.

His shearling ram, which is by the same sire as the champion, stood first in the pre-sale show and sold to M. and S. Nesbit, Drumgesk Farm, Dess, Aboyne.

Thereafter, the reserve champion sold for 400gn to A. J. and A. R. Benzie, Meikle Whiterashes, Turriff.

The reserve was a ram lamb by Aucharnie Impulse, from William G Low, of West Mains, Nethermuir, Maud.

Meanwhile, a top price of 650gn was achieved at the Border Leicester sale.

The sale topper was a shearling from Young and Noble of Bareflathills Farm, Elgin.

This Westside Bold Boy son, out of a dam by Didcot Glint of Gold, sold to Messrs D. Miller, Buckies Farm, Thurso.

Next best at 450gn was a ram lamb from Jimmy Douglas at Woodhead of Cairness, Fraserburgh. By Muirmouth Real Deal and out of a dam by Didcot Real Diamond, it sold to John Gibb of Cairnton, Techmuiry, Fraserburgh.

The pre-sale show champion – a shearling from Keith Hourston, of Skelbister, Orphir, Stromness, Orkney – sold for 150gn to R. J. Downie, Newton of Crathie, Ballater.

The reserve champion – a ram lamb from Jimmy Douglas – went unsold.

In the Charollais section a top price of 680gn was paid for a ram lamb from the Davies family at Hillhead Of Cannahars, near Belhelvie.

The second-prize winning lot was a December-2015 born son of Lowerye Nevis and out of a dam by Logie Durno Lord Myers. He sold to J. M. Wilson, Barnyards, Mintlaw Station, Peterhead.

The next best price of 550gn was achieved twice for lots from sisters Eilidh and Erin Duncan, of Braemuir, Auchnagatt, Ellon.

One of the lots was the pre-sale show champion – a shearling by Dalby Mount Aloe and out of a dam by CWM Dunrig Edward – which sold to Uppermill Farm, Kintore, Inverurie.

The other was a ram lamb by Logie Durno Outlander, out of a dam by Maryholm Loch Lomond, selling to Dave McKenzie, of South Mains of Balgavney.

The Duncan sisters also took the reserve champion title in the pre-sale show with another ram lamb with the same breeding as the previously mentioned lot. This sold for 520gn to Jim Innes, of Dunscroft, Huntly.
