A grain industry worker from the north-east was yesterday recognised as “one to watch” by farm co-op support organisation SAOS.
Kate Drever was presented with the SAOS Next Generation Award in recognition of the work and accomplishments she has received while working at Aberdeen Grain.
She has worked at the Whiterashes-based co-op for the past five years leading a team of eight lab staff, and handling the task of contacting farmers during harvest time to let them know their grain has not met specification.
According to Aberdeen Grain, Ms Drever’s “excellent demeanour and obvious knowledge ensure that, rather than being contentious, these conversations allow the member to understand the issues and help to improve their product in the future”.
Presenting the award, SAOS chairman George Lawrie, said: “Kate’s role is clearly critical to the success of Aberdeen Grain and her hard work and commitment to improving communication with members and the overall business are a real credit to her. In an era when young people are sometimes perceived to have a poor work ethic, it’s great to have proof that this is far from the case.”
Ms Dever will be invited to attend next year’s Oxford Farming Conference as part of winning the award.
