Lagas Joseph

An Orkney cattle breeder took home the top price at the Beef Shorthorn Cattle Society’s early spring show and sale in Carlisle.

Michael Cusiter, of Laga Farms, Evie, achieved the top price of 6,000gn when his 22-month-old roan bull, Lagas Joseph, went under the hammer.

Standing reserve male champion in the pre-sale show, as judged by Northern Irish breeder Ian Rae, Joseph is a son of the 5,500gn Chapelton Adonis, and out of a Galla-bred dam. He sold to Dundarave Properties, Bushmills, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Another Scottish herd – the Balgay herd at Balgay Farm, Inchture, Perth – was responsible for the second best price of 3,800gn. April-2015 born Balgay Juitter Bug is a roan AI son of Glenisla Zetor, out of Balgay Rothes Mari. He sold to D. Lesson, Malton, North Yorkshire.

In the female section the top price of 3,200gn was paid by J. Adamson, of Hillhead of Stevensburn, New Deer.

He bought a red and white six-year-old cow called Knockenjig Margo from David and Rosemary Dickie at Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire. By Cavans Northern Light, she sold in-calf to Glengoy Geronimo.

In total auctioneers Harrison and Hetherington sold nine bulls to average £2,998.33 and 11 heifers to an average of £2,5529.44.

Meanwhile, an Orkney farmer was the buyer of the top-priced beast at the British Blonde Society’s early spring show and sale at Carlisle.

Keith Eunson, of Braebuster Farm, Deerness, paid 8,000gn for the supreme champion bull.

He was bidding for May-2015 born Hallfield Lincoln from P. Weightman and Sons, of Hallfield, Easington, Peterlee, Durham. He is by Hilltop Hector and out of Hallfield Dizzy.
