Harestone Charolais leads Thainstone annual bull sale

A Charolais bull took home the champion rosettes and top price at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ annual show and sale of bulls yesterday.

Judge Liam Muir, of Upper Onston, Orkney, was in praise of the September-2015 born champion and said he had good presence and good breed character.

He was referring to Harestone Liam from Neil and Stuart Barclay at Harestone, Insch. This home-bred son of the 25,000gn Inverlochy Ferdie sold for 6,500gn to M. J. Forbes, Bogside, Drumblade, Huntly. Ferdie has previously sold sons to 7,500gn.

The Barclays sold another Ferdie son – October-2015 born Hareston Legit – for 4,000gn to R. Mackenzie and Son, Glebe of Deisher, Boat of Garten, Inverness-shire.

The reserve Charolais champion, put forward by Jock Wilson of Kinclune, Glenkindie, Alford, achieved 6,000gn. May-2015 born Kinclune Leader, by the 20,000gn Beechtree George, sold to J. and M. McConachie, Midtown of Buchromb, Dufftown, Keith.

In the Limousin section the champion – May-2015 born Gallery Loki from Messrs I. and G. Grant of Bank of Gallery, Montrose – sold for at 6,200gn. This AI son of Huntershall Gladiator sold to the Henderson family at Mains of Wardhouse, Insch.

The reserve Limousin champion – March-2015 born Whinfellpark Limitededition put forward by J McIrvine of 6 James Presly Court, Huntly – sold for 5,600gn to J. W. Moir of Auchorties, Keith.

Peterhead Limousin breeder Albert Howie, of West Knock, Mintlaw, achieved a top price of 5,200gn for a black December-2015 born bull named Knock Black Lotus. By the 21,000gn Goldies Goldfinger, he sold to A. M. M. Polson, Westerloch Farm, Wick.

Meanwhile, in the Simmental section only three of the eight bulls forward sold.

Among those unsold was the breed champion – June-2015 born Tillyeve Gary from Messrs C. and M. Bruce, Tillyeve, Udny, Ellon.

The top price for the breed of 4,000gn was paid for the reserve champion, also from Messrs Bruce. December-2015 born Tillyeve Gordon is the first son to be sold of the 6,000gn Woodhall Ellison. He sold to A. and J. Wilson, Upper Scotstown, Insch.

Lastly, Aberdeen-Angus bulls sold to a top of 4,400gn for the champion from Wendy Willox, Broadmyre, Clatt, Huntly. April-2015 born Strathinver Evolution, by Mountjoy Poldark, sold to Liam Muir.

The sole British Blue bull entry sold for 3,300gn to William Moir, of Home Farm, Cairness, Fraserburgh.

Put forward by G. Dinnie, of Bridgeton, Muir of Fowlis, Alford, September-2014 born Lukeroyal Jude is an embryo transfer son of Drybarrows Cawdale out of Lukeroyal Finesse.

Immediately after the bull sale, Aberdeen and Northern Marts dispersed the Greenbridge pedigree Limousin herd from E. J. Green, of Drumburn, Keith.

A top price of 5,000gn was paid for five-year-old cow Greenbridge Harmony, by Pyebrook Explosive. She sold with her bull calf Greenbridge Norseman, by Brims Ironman, at foot. The buyer was Graham Morrison who runs the Deveronvale pedigree flock of Texels at Inchbruich Farm, Cornhill.
