Shorthorn tops at 20,000gn but average down at Stirling Bull Sales

Beef Shorthorn bulls sold to a top of 20,000gn at the main breed sale in Stirling.

The sale topper was Millerston Kasper, by Meonhill Charlie Chaplin, from Jack Ramsay, Millerston Farm, Mauchline, Ayrshire. He sold to L. Townsend, Coxhill Farm, Moffat.

Next best at 15,000gn was Balnabroich Kermit, by Glenisla Centurian, from Balnabroich Farms, Ballintuim, Blairgowrie. He sold to Donald Biggar for his Chapelton herd at Grange, Castle Douglas.

Thereafter 11,000gn was paid twice, with the first bid being the senior champion – Willingham Katabatic, by Fearn Wyvis, from the Haigh family at Ashgrove Farm, Market Rasen. He sold to I. Evans, Llwynhyel, Llanilan, Wales.

The other at 11,000gn was the reserve junior bull – Coldrochie Kensington, by Fearn Godfather, from Douglas McMillan. He sold to LFP Farms.

The overall champion, from the Haigh family, sold for 10,000gn. The buyer of Willingham Kensington, by Willingham Haigh, was Drayton Farm, East Meon, Peterfields.

Other leading prices included 9,000gn for the reserve senior champion – Chapelton Kaiser from Donald Biggar – selling to Pitgaveny Farms, Elgin. Also at this price was Chapelton Krypton, from the same stable, selling to the Green family at Corskie, Garmouth, Fochabers.

Another at 9,000gn selling to Balnabroich Farms was Khyber of Upsall from G. Turton, The Grane, Upsall, Thirsk.

In total 59 bulls averaged £5,803 – back £111 on 2017.
