The Royal Northern Agricultural Society’s Spring Show is a happy hunting ground for the father and son partnership of John and Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Ballinluig.
The pair took the supreme championship in the exhibition cattle for the sixth time since 2010 yesterday.
This year’s champion was an 11-month-old home-bred black heifer by their stock bull, Powerhouse Harlequin, and out of a Limousin cross cow.
She later sold for the top price of £7,800 to Donald Morrison, Cairn Nulla, Kinlochbervie.
The Robertsons run 160 cows and 700 ewes at Logierait and had a team of nine cattle at Thainstone yesterday, which all went home with tickets and made all the top prices.
The second top price was £3,500 for the Robertson family’s first-prize baby heifer.
This 10-month-old also by Powerhouse Harlequin weighed 343kg and was sold to Wilson Peters, Cuilt Farmhouse, Monzie, Crieff.
At £3,100 their second -prize 450kg yearling heifer, by Easgilhead Exterminate, bred by J. McAllister, West Thomaston, went to L. Pisley, Upton Lay Farm, Honiton, Devon.
Thereafter a home-bred British Blue cross heifer which was third in the same class made £2,100 to Cormack and Swanson, Blairbuie, Caithness.
The reserve female and reserve overall champion from William Moir, Home Farm, Fraserburgh, was retained for summer showing and he is hoping she does as well as her full sister which was reserve champion at the Highland two years ago.
The champion steer was Mr Muscle – a nine-month-old Limousin cross, bred and shown by Gary and Suzie McConachie from Grantown.
He sold for £1,700 to K. McIver, Mouir House, Avoch, Black Isle.
At £1,800, the third-prize 10-month-old heifer from Gordon Carroll, Edendiack, Huntly, sold to John Lumgair, East Idvies, Forfar.
