Limousins sold to 40,000gn at the breed’s autumn show and sale in Carlisle.

Averages were up £208.02 on the year with 84 bulls levelling at £5,819.38.

The sale leader was the supreme champion from the pre-sale show – May 2018-born Ampertaine Opportunity from WJ & J McKay, Upperlands, Maghera, Co Derry.

An AI son of Ampertaine Gigolo, he sold in a three-way split to the Adam family at Newhouse of Glamis, Forfar; Bruce Goldie, Townfoot, Mouswald, Dumfries; and the Burnetts at Upper Spittalton Farm, Blair Drummond.

Next best at 26,000gn was April 2018-born Foxhillfarm Ourbest from Devon breeders Mike and Melanie Alford. An AI son of the 35,000gn Foxhillfarm Lordofthering, and out of Corranhill Krystal, he sold to Messrs Cameron, Acharrade, Argyll.

Other leading prices included 11,000gn for June 2018-born Brontemoor Oasis from JM & SM Priestley, Cracrop Farm, Cumbria. An AI son of Uptonley Livingthedream, he sold to Messrs Johnston, Shapinsay, Orkney.

William and David Moir sold to a top of 10,000gn at their first trip to the sale with stock from their Cairness herd. The brothers, who hail from Home Farm, Cairness, Fraserburgh, sold May-2018 born Cairness Onside, by Goldies Goldfinger, to Messrs Walker & Son, Girvan, Ayrshire.

The Gammie family, which runs the Westpit herd at Drumforber, Laurencekirk, sold to a top of 9,000gn for the reserve senior champion.

Selling to Messrs Pearson, Peak Forrest, Buxton, Derbyshire, was March 2018-born Westpit Oban, which stood reserve male champion at the Highland Show in June. He is by Jalex Itsallgood.

Meanwhile, Gordon Hendry who runs the Aultmore herd at Heads of Auchinderran, Keith, sold to a top of 7,000gn.

His sale leader, selling to Messrs Stephenson, Dailly, Girvan, was April 2018-born Aultmore Ozzy, an AI son of Lodge Hamlet.
