Charolais bull stands supreme and gets top price of 5,800gn at Thainstone bull sale

Pedigree bulls sold to 5,800gn at the Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ annual multi-breed show and sale of pedigree cattle.

Taking the top price was the pre-sale show supreme and Charolais champion from Mike Massie, of Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt, Ellon. April-2014 born Elrick Juror is a home-bred son of the 16,000gn Thrunton Fearless and the first calf out of Elrick Frenchy.

Thrunton Fearless is owned jointly by the Massies and the Barclays who run the Harestone herds at South Road, Insch.

He sold to John Gordon, Wellheads, Huntly. This follows Juror taking the Charolais champion title at the Aberdeen Christmas Classic in December last year, where he failed to meet the reserve price at auction.

Show judge Neil Work, who runs a herd of pedigree Limousins at Mains of Dumbreck, Udny, said Juror was a “well-shaped and good, powerful-type bull”.

The second best price of 4,800gn was paid for the Limousin champion from Garry Patterson, Upper Forgie, Aultmore, Keith.

Next best at 4,600gn was the reserve Aberdeen-Angus champion from Mr and Mrs Neil Gillanders, Newfield, Hatton, Peterhead.

March-2014 born Newfield Black Barron, which is by Nightingale Defiance and out of Blelack Blackbird, sold to J. and A. Strathdee, North Retannach, Rothiemay, Huntly.

Thereafter a September-2014 born Simmental bull from Gary and Angela Christie at Birchfield, Glass, Huntly, sold for 4,500gn.

Rockytop Faldo, which is by Dirnanean Tiso and out of Simply Nelly, sold to D. Petrie and Son, Glencat, Ballogie, Aboyne.

The next best price of 4,200gn was paid twice for Simmental bulls.

First at this price was the breed champion from Brian and Stuart Grant, Druid Temple Farm, Inverness.

Dellfield Field Marshall is a September-2014 born son of the 17,000gn Hiltonstown Dominic and out of Dellfield Winola. He sold to T. L. Stirling, Auctherblair, Carrbridge.

The other at 4,200gn was October-2014 born Islavale Filbert from Stewart Stronach at Berryleys Farm, Grange, Keith.

This Celtic Comet son, out of Islavale Ashley 2, sold to I Cooper and Partners, Backhill of Thornton, Bourtie, Inverurie.

Other leading prices included 4,000gn for an April-2014 born Charolais from Neil and Graeme Massie, Blelack Farm, Dinnet, Aboyne.

Blelack Jackpot, which is by Clyth Diplomat and out of Alsnow Victoria, sold to W. and L. Milne, Whitehillock, Keith.

Another at 4,000gn was April-2014 born Limousin bull Shannas Junior from John and Margaret Penny at Shannas, Clola, Peterhead.

This one, which is a Garnedd Ferrari son out of Shannas Glenice, sold to A. Milne, Easter Mains Pennan, New Aberdour, Fraserburgh.

Meanwhile, the reserve Charolais champion from M. Bruce and Partners, of Mains of Logie, Ellon, sold for 3,800gn to Burnton Farms, Burnton, Laurencekirk.

May-2014 born Logiestate Justootaellon is by Goldies Golddust and out of Craigeiford Galaxy.

The Aberdeen-Angus champion – Wrae Proud Icelander from Alexander J. Norrie, Wrae Farm, Turriff – sold for the same price to D. L. Glass, Deecastle, Dinnet, Aboyne.

Two Charolais bulls also achieved 3,800gn.

First up was Kinclune Jethro from J. A. Wilson and Sons, Kinclune, Glenkindie, selling to R. Mackenzie, of Glebe of Deisher, Boat of Garten.

The other was Foundland Jeneral from Andrew Reid, Knockdhu, Hill of Logie, Ellon, selling to I. D. Ross, Coldhome, Dallas, Forres.
