What: Fochabers Does Strictly – a fundraising event for Milne’s Primary School run by the school’s parent council.
Where: Fochabers Institute was transformed into a glittering moonlit landscape for the event
Who: The event was a sell out with 220 tickets sold. All members of the community came along to support, including representatives from local business and councillor Margo Howe. The event was sponsored by Cardhu who also provided welcome drinks for the audience. Local businesses Frockabers and Macauley Hairdressers assisted with hair and costume. Matty Pearce filmed the event, Ian Clavey provided sound, and Peter Hunter of CLS Lighting operated the lighting on the night.
Why: The event was held to raise funds for the school to provide additional outside resources for the children.
On the night, ten local couples danced, including residents, parents, teachers and the school’s very own head teacher Juli Harris.
All dancers were trained by Lorna Whelan who is a parent at the school as well as having represented Scotland in ballroom and latin, appeared on the original Come Dancing and is a qualified dance teacher.
All couples danced once followed by an audience and judge vote, and then the two finalist danced again. Winners Dougie Macphee and Sharon Taylor were crowned following a further public vote.
The final total raised on the night was £4,600.
