Beauty bloggers come in for a lot of shtick, which is strange because people who want longer and more defined eyelashes are not what is most wrong with this sad world.
Sali Hughes found her footing in the beauty industry as a make-up artist working on pop stars, but her first book, Pretty Honest (2014), delivered sensible advice for real women.
This latest offering has a more complex brief – she wants to talk about the products that have entered the culture and changed the game.
She certainly knows her serums from her toners. It’s all highly readable and I will be making a trip to the beauty counter as a result of what I’ve learned.
My only quibble is that the book’s approach depends entirely on buying things. As Jane Austen’s hero Mr Darcy so wisely observed, a brisk walk in the fresh air can also do wonders to brighten the eyes.
