A Stonehaven photographer has launched a new book celebrating the north east.
Aberdeenshire – A New Perspective has been produced by photographer Andrew Hall in collaboration with Visit Aberdeenshire and captures the beauty of the region.
The work, which was launched at the International School in Aberdeen last night, also features a foreword from Sir Ian Wood and is dedicated to football legend and son of the Granite City, Denis Law, whom Mr Hall described as his “all-time hero”.
Among Mr Hall’s favourite photographs in the book, which took two years to produce, is one of the village of Pennan in the early morning light, a photograph from Rattray Head looking down the coast and one of Aberdeen’s Graeme Shinnie in action at a floodlit Pittodrie.
The retired teacher explained that, after travelling to America, Italy, Iceland and [Aegean island] Santorini, he was inspired to take a closer look at the north east.
The Stonehaven resident said: “When I retired from teaching in November 2014, I travelled around four countries in nine months and, when I came back, I decided I was going to look more closely at my local area.
“I have looked at all aspects of the north east: light, landscape and culture with my camera.
“I spent two years rediscovering places I knew already and discovering places I didn’t know.
“It was nice to see new places and places I had explored already with a fresh pair of eyes and a fresh perspective.
“I hope, for local people, the book will open their eyes and encourage them to go and revisit a place they haven’t been to in a while.”
The volume has been produced in collaboration with Network Aberdeen Social Enterprise, a charity that helps youngsters with autism.
Mr Hall added: “It is young people with autism who are going to be responsible for all the distribution of the book, the stock control and packing.
“I spent the last 10 years of my teaching career working with people with additional support needs, so it is very important to me.
“I am very excited because it is innovative and I am hoping it will be a good job for them.”
