Pop star Harry Styles took to the skies as he arrived on Skye to shoot his new music video.

Access to a slipway in Staffin was blocked off on Monday while the film crew got to work on a shoot that saw the former One Direction singer suspended from a helicopter.

The video is believed to be for the launch of his solo career.

Harry Styles new material

The shoot caused a stir among local residents, who took to social media as the news spread.

Shulista Croft Wigwams on Skye wrote: “You never know who you might bump into on Skye. Harry Styles has been filming his new video over Staffin Bay.

“Looks like the One Direction he is taking is Skye-wards.”

However fishing business Skye Ghillie, run by Mitchell Partridge, was surprised to find Styles gate-crashing his day.

He wrote: “Trying to fish today with the Wilson family from Kentucky USA. However a fella call Harry Styles thought it would be good to shoot a new video at Storr lochs today.”

To which Lora Osborne replied “Now that’s a fish story.”

Yesterday, Mr Mitchell said: “They were here for two days. I saw him on Wednesday dangling from the helicopter. It’s something we get used to up here – we get a lot of film companies.

“We didn’t catch anything but he did not disturb us. It was quite entertaining to watch.”

Film crew members had been staying locally, but the identity of who they were there to film was kept secret.

Styles is not the first pop star to film on Skye.

Last April, Kanye West also made a video on the island, which led to the local police force to tweet a tongue-in-cheek road safety warning.

He was described as a “perfect guest” by staff at the Skeabost House Hotel, where he stayed.

The star and his entourage took up half of the venue’s 14 rooms.

While there he did some filming amid some of the island’s famous scenery before returning for a meal ahead of leaving via Inverness airport.

In recent years the north end of Skye has featured in a number of TV and film productions.

The Storr has regularly been used in Hollywood films such as Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and blockbuster Macbeth, starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, as well as television programmes, commercials, newspapers and magazines.

Scenes for Transformers: The Last Knight – starring Laura Haddock, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Mark Wahlberg – were also shot on the isle.
