A popular Aberdeenshire event will celebrate a major anniversary this September.

The 20th edition of Grampian Transport Museum’s annual KT Bike Run will take place on the second Saturday of the month.

It will be held at the Alford museum and is organised in partnership with the Alford Rotary Club.

Participants have the option of cycling 29 or 13 miles, while children can participate in a track run and all participants will be rewarded with a complimentary burger for their efforts.

It is hoped that some of the museum’s classic pedal cycles will take part in the race, which takes place alongside a free-entry craft fair.

The event coincides with the museum’s celebration of 200 years of cycling which has involved new exhibits arriving at the north-east museum.

Curator Mark Ward said: “It is great to have exhibits being used again on the local bike run on the roads around Alford.

“Having both static and dynamic exhibits in this special year for cycling gives everyone the opportunity to see the story of cycling and to try out the sport for themselves.

“The added plus is that all the funds raised from the Bike Run go to local good causes and cancer charities.”

Friends of Anchor, a charity supporting Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s (ARI) cancer and haematology unit, will benefit the most from the bike run, along with more local causes including the museum itself, the Alford Heritage Museum and the Alford Schools Gardening Project.

The event runs from until 10am until 2pm on September 9.
