Charlotte Forbes searches for fame and fortune as Dick Whittington at Eden Court Theatre this Christmas.
Glasgow-based Charlotte Forbes has stepped into the lead role of hero Dick Whittington in this year’s spectacular family pantomime at Eden Court in Inverness.
Although she has never appeared at Eden Court before, she said: “I have been to Inverness on many occasions to search for Nessie! The people of Inverness are so lovely and friendly I think it will be a really nice place to spend the festive season.”
WHAT’S YOUR VIEW ON TRADITIONAL PANTOS?
I think it is very sad that some pantomimes have lost touch with the traditions. I believe roles like female principal boys and male dames are quintessential pantomime staples which should be kept alive. My whole family loves attending panto every year and it has become a tradition. I love all the amazing costumes, sets and silly jokes. I have appeared in several pantomimes at the SECC – everything from a dancer to Wicked Stepmother.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ROLE AND WHY?
Up until now, I think my favourite role in pantomime would have to be the evil queen from Snow White. I loved walking down to take a bow as the audience booed me. It made feel like I had done my job well.
WHAT ROLE IN THEATRE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO PLAY AND WHY?
The Sound of Music has always been my favourite musical from the first time I watched Julie Andrews in the film as a young girl, so I would have to say Maria Von Trapp would be my ideal role.
IN DICK WHITTINGTON, DICK DREAMS OF BECOMING LORD MAYOR OF LONDON. IF YOU WEREN’T AN ACTOR, WHAT WOULD YOUR DREAM JOB BE?
At school, I always had a keen interest in the sciences and having watched a lot of crime dramas on TV, I did consider going to university to study forensics, although I am sure it isn’t as exciting as it looks on TV.
IN THE PANTO, DICK TRAVELS TO LONDON. WHEN YOU’RE IN LONDON, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO?
Having lived and studied in London, one of my go-to places when I return is Marylebone High Street. It is filled with lovely cafes and beautiful shops – perfect for an afternoon stroll and catch up with friends. In the evening, a must in London is to see a west-end show.
DICK’S SIDEKICK IS HIS CAT. ARE YOU A DOG OR A CAT PERSON?
I have to admit I am much more of a dog person despite never having one of my own. I used to have a cat called Tibby Tiddles, but unfortunately we could not keep him as I discovered I was highly allergic.”
