Stuart Mitchell – A hilarious breath of fresh air

Stuart Mitchell
Stuart Mitchell

Stuart Mitchell comedian. Remember the name because I suspect you’ll hear much more of him in the months to come.

The Scottish comedian is on the cusp of becoming a household name, and rightly so, for he delivered a show packed with excellent one liners and laugh-out-loud anecdotes, in an unusual style.

By that I mean, he didn’t feel the need to make every other word an expletive like some comedians, and only once or twice did he stray into the, ooh that’s slightly risqué, territory.

He was, in short, a hilarious breath of fresh air.

Yet much of his material was very dark.

Billed as his, Dealt A Bad Hand Show  a title that relates to him missing the tops of two fingers as a result of a childhood accident, he found laughter in situations that would have others feeling despair.

He has had a pretty raw life yet he’s found humour within some grim events like discovering his mum’s dead body when he was seven. She’d taken her own life after suffering post-natal stress.

In his teenage years he suffered post-traumatic stress as a result and lost all his hair which made him look like an e-fit of Scottish murderer, Bible John.

But that lead to him being offered the lead role in TV show about the killer, and to meeting his future wife, one of the stars of kids’ show, Fun Box.

His tale about what happened when he first met her priest, ahead of their wedding, lead to one of the funniest laughs  of the night, while his stories about performing in Barlinnie and his role as Bible John revealed a brilliant sense of comedy timing and anecdotal storytelling..

A regular at the Inverness Happiness Comedy Festival, Stuart is also often a guest panellist on the comedy radio show, Breaking the News. Surely it can’t be long now before he’s also a regular on TV.
