Scottish pork will be promoted as the ideal meat to enjoy with a gin-based drink at Saturday’s Taste of Grampian food and drink festival.

Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) is the major sponsor for the award-winning event, under the auspices of the Specially Selected Pork brand.

The red meat promotional body has enlisted the help of well-known Aberdeenshire chef Craig Wilson, of Eat On The Green at Udny Green, to promote pork.

Mr Wilson, also known as the Kilted Chef, will cook delicious pork dishes to accompany gin drinks prepared by Grant Stephen of Indian Summer Gin.

QMS marketing executive Graeme Sharp said: “Pork and gin are a perfect pairing and we are bringing together two great Scottish brands at the Taste of Grampian food festival.

“We hope the sessions will demonstrate how versatile pork is and inspire consumers to try something new, whether it’s for a midweek dinner or a celebratory feast.”

Gin maestro Grant Strachan said: “Indian Summer Gin is infused with the exotic spice saffron. It is brilliant for use in recipes or to simply drink with a meal as its tasting notes include coriander, lemon and pink peppercorns so it can help bring out similar spice, herb and fruit flavours in dishes.

“We’re excited to be part of Craig’s demonstrations and let people who attend, sample our gin which is bottled in Huntly.”

Taste of Grampian takes place at the Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, on Saturday, June 3.

This year’s event will feature demonstrations from various leading chefs including telly favourite James Martin, P&J columnist and food writer extraordinare, Claire Macdonald, and award-winning chef, Brian McLeish from Aberdeen’s Moonfish Cafe.

The event will also feature the popular Press and Journal/Evening Express Motor Show, which this year features a special Blast From the Past section with a range of classic cars.

There will also be a new after party, named Mart Fest, taking place immediately after the main event from 5pm to 11pm.

The event, which will feature performances from the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Sandi Thom, will include an array of outdoor street food, live music, piano bar and an acoustic lounge.
