First look: See inside itsu in Union Square ahead of its opening in Aberdeen

Inside itsu in Aberdeen.
Inside itsu in Aberdeen.

Asian-inspired brand itsu opens in Aberdeen this week and we’ve got a sneak preview of the 78-seater restaurant and grocery store.

Situated within the Union Square shopping centre on Guild Street, diners will be able to sit-in and sample a range of dishes including sushi, gyoza, bao buns, rice bowls and noodles from Friday (July 1).

The restaurant chain markets itself as a healthier alternative to other fast food outlets, priding itself on the fact that most of its dishes are under 500 calories per portion.

A third of their dishes are also plant-based.

While some customers will be looking to sit-in at the restaurant based across from Costa Coffee in the centre, others may want to browse the grocery store and pick up items and food to go.

The venue will be itsu’s second premises in Scotland and more than 52 dishes will be on offer.

What’s on offer?

From California and dragon sushi rolls to miso soup, not to mention veggie meatballs and coconut, stir-fry’s, salads, mochi and more, there’s plenty to tuck into.

Store items that will be available to purchase include everything from miso broth, noodles, gyoza, buns and other cooking products.

itsu opens on Friday.

For more items on-the-go, bottled drinks, fresh smoothies, fruit cups, rice cakes, seaweed things, prawn crackers, wasabi peas and more will also be available.

Itsu will be open seven days a week from 11am to 10pm and the new addition to Aberdeen’s food scene has created 40 jobs.

The brand will also be handing out free sushi at an event at the store tomorrow (Thursday June 30) from noon to 1pm ahead of its opening. The complimentary dishes will be on a first-come-first served basis.
