A Scottish whisky festival which has visited multiple cities finally arrived in the Highland capital for the first time today.

The National Whisky Festival of Scotland headed north to Inverness as part of a series of 2022 events.

Hundreds of people turned out to enjoy samples of Scotland’s national spirit at Eden Court from 1pm to 5pm.

The festival has seen huge success in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow since returning in 2021 and this is the furthest north it has come to date.

Inverness whisky festival

This year’s debut Inverness edition showcased dozens of exhibitors spanning the length and breadth of the industry spectrum, with hundreds of whiskies and guest spirits available to try throughout the day. Everyone from independent bottlers to some of the industry’s biggest distillers were in attendance.

From delicate, sweet ones to peat-powered drams, whisky fans were able to sample a variety of different drams all under one roof. The dram samples were included in ticket prices, and those in attendance also received a branded festival nosing glass.

Those in attendance also got the chance to purchase bottles of their favourites and a bill of live music from celebrated Scottish talent kept festivalgoers entertained as they worked their way through the event’s offering.

There was also cocktails for those looking for something different available and food vendors served up a range of dishes to keep festivalgoers from becoming ravenous.

Masterclasses took place across the city at event partner, The Malt Room, and also at the popular MacGregor’s Bar.

The event first launched in 2015 and is part of the world-renowned Celtic Connections Festival.

We sent Jason Hedges our photographer along to capture the atmosphere.
