9 Aberdeen bakeries to visit for butteries, cakes and more

The Granite City has plenty of bakeries to choose from. Here are some that I'd recommend visiting.

Fewer things are better than a freshly-baked buttery, loaf, cake or pastry.

Where can you buy all of this, and more? That’s right, a bakery – and Aberdeen has plenty of them to choose from.

To save you the hassle of hunting them down, I’ve pulled together this list of businesses to visit if you’re in need of some baked goods.

What’s your favourite bakery in Aberdeen? Let us know in the comments section…

The Bread Maker

Social enterprise The Bread Maker, an artisan bakery and coffee shop, is kicking things off.

Its range of loaves and other baked products are crafted fresh every day, using the finest ingredients and traditional techniques.

Ross Bakery

Ross Bakery was established by Alex and Margaret Ross in 1954, and it has continued to grow in popularity ever since.

Their son, David, joined the family business in 1965 and his son, Simon, joined in 1990.

David and Simon now run the business together specialising in a selection of pies and savoury products and have won numerous awards from the competitions they have entered over the years.

Cookie Cult

Since the Cookie Cult shop opened its doors in August, owner Amanda Charles and her tight-knit team have served hundreds of sweet treat lovers daily.

There are cookies, brookies and cookie dipping pots, to name a few items, up for grabs. Be sure to stop by early doors as stock often sells out.

Bandit Bakery

If you haven’t stumbled across or heard of Bandit Bakery, then we’ll have done you a solid by including the business in this listicle.

Pete Leonard, who runs the Rose Street venue with his wife Sarah, is constantly introducing new products to the bakery’s counter.

To top it all off, everything is plant-based.

The Bread Guy

The Bread Guy is thriving, to say the least. Currently, the business has four branches in the city alone. You read correctly.

It has quickly become one of the most well-loved bakeries in the north-east. Once you try their products, it’s easy to understand why.

I would recommend getting your hands on a yum yum or buttery while stocks last.

Addresses:

  • 41 – 43 Glenbervie Road, Torry, AB11 9JE
  • 80 Great Northern Road, Aberdeen, AB24 3QB
  • 16 Thistle Street, Aberdeen, AB10 1XZ
  • 5 Hazlehead Crescent, Aberdeen AB15 8EX

Byron Bakery

“Can’t beat a Bryon rowie, always very popular on a Friday morning in the office.”

This is just one of the positive reviews written online by fans of Byron Bakery, which sells everything from pies and butteries to doughnuts, tarts, shortbreads and truffles.

If you plan on stopping by in the future, be sure to head there hungry.

Address: 11 Byron Square, Northfield, Aberdeen, AB16 7LL

Thains Bakery

Every time I’ve visited Thains Bakery in the past, there’s been a queue. And if that doesn’t prove how popular the branch is, I don’t know what will…

You’ll struggle to narrow down your decision at Thains. But regardless of what you tuck into, you’re sure to be impressed.

Vegan Bay Baker

Vegan Bay Baker opened its second branch in Aberdeen in August 2022 – to the delight of fans in the city.

The passionate team offer everything from bread and pies to scones, biscuits, traybakes, cakes and more.

Fat Batch

Eve Smith is assisted by her boyfriend Michael Deans at Fat Batch, which opened its shop in June 2022.

The bakery regularly has queues going out the door. But with products like Kinder Nutella brookies, and white chocolate and caramel cookie pies on the menu, it’s easy to understand why…
