Inverurie business owners encouraged to become food and drink festival’s key ingredient

An innovative food festival taking place in Inverurie and the surrounding area to promote the north-east’s diverse food and drink sector will officially launch at Taste of Grampian on Saturday, June 6.

Feast North East, a three-month food and drink festival, which is taking place from June to August, will showcase the very best food and drink producers, farmers, independent retailers and eating establishments in Inverurie and the surrounding area.

Embracing Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink, Feast North East consists of a range of events and activities organised by local businesses in the area to raise awareness of the varied range of quality food and drink, and encourage visitors to try something new.

Businesses including J.G. Ross (Bakers) Ltd, Thainstone Centre, The Kilted Frog, Gadie’s Restaurant, Loaves and Fishes, All About Lemons, Cones & Candy and Mitchells have been the first to support the festival by signing up and getting their events in the diary.

And it’s not too late for Inverurie business owners to get involved and help to provide a jam-packed summer of food and drink celebrations. From an open day at a farm, a picnic at the park, gin tasting in a clothes shop, or even a restaurant collaborating with its suppliers to host a special occasion, no event is too big or too small.

Doug Milne, spokesman on behalf of Feast North East and Aberdeenshire Council’s Garioch area manager, said: “There is an abundance of local businesses in Inverurie and the surrounding area with fantastic food and drink produce on offer, and the festival offers people the perfect platform to showcase their produce, which in turn will help reach the festival’s aim of increasing footfall in the area.

“It’s not too late to get involved, and we would encourage any business owners who haven’t already signed up to show their support by hosting an event. It’s a great way to raise your company’s profile as well as helping to put Inverurie on Scotland’s food and drink map.”

J.G. Ross (Bakers) Ltd director Graeme Ross said: “As Scotland’s Retail Baker of the Year, we are delighted to be involved in Feast North East and have organised a number of events to coincide with the festival.

“We are in the process of organising a large event at the end of August to showcase some of the area’s finest producers and want to try to encourage as many of the local businesses as we can to get involved, so we can end the Feast North East festival with a bang.”
