How to rock festival-proof hairstyles

The runways have spoken: summer’s biggest hair trends are all about effortless flirty femininity. With festival season almost upon us, celebrity hairstylist and style director at the Daniel Galvin salon (Mayfair) Asgar Saboo shares with us his favourite no-fuss festival hairstyles to keep it cool and chic during this bustling season.

Music festivals are the perfect occasion to show off an on-trend playful and free-spirited hair-do. From romantic undone up-dos to sleek beach wet looks, these low-maintenance hairstyles will help you survive a warm and humid outdoor festival experience.

  • Mermaid Loose Waves: Loose waves are the ideal hair-style for a spring festival. Asgar believes this to be a soft and relaxed youthful look that matches the Bohemian vibe of a musical festival and withstands the warm weather. To get the effortless tousled look he recommends using large Velcro rollers. Another tip is to braid the hair while it’s still damp in two large braids before going to sleep. A centre parting is very suited to this look.

  • The Dishevelled Side Pony: For bad hair days or intense weather conditions Asgar suggests an undone side low pony with a few wispy strands. This is a playful and casual look that works well with festival outfits. Asgar recommends loosening some strands for a softer look that will frame your face before securing it at the nape.
  • The Pretty Flowery Look: Flowers were in full bloom at this season’s runways. Asgar believes that a soft, romantic hairstyle is the must-have look for this year’s music festival season. He suggests creating a softly shaped up-do and accentuating it with flower blossom accessories. Another effortless look is to contrast a sleek low ponytail with a statement flowery hair band.

  • The Surfer Sleek Wet Look: A wet look style is a low-maintenance solution to a hectic day outdoors. Asgar recommends this centre-parted sleek style and suggests using a high shine serum before styling the hair, for a glossy look. He recommends using an extreme hold hairspray to keep it in place.
  • The French Braided Crown: When it’s too hot to wear your hair down, a French-inspired hairdo is perfect to keep cool and look chic. Asgar recommends dividing the hair in half and creating a French loose braid with one half, towards the side. After securing it with an elastic, band twist the leftover hair at the top of the head towards the braid, making sure it’s secured with bobby pins.
