Aberdeen slimmers haven’t looked back

Two Slimming World members from Aberdeen have been so inspired by their own weight loss journeys, they’ve decided to launch their own careers as Slimming World Consultants.

Having turned 40 and recently separated, Claire Scott was suffering a lack of motivation and stuck in a rut. Feeling a little bit alone and self-conscious about her appearance, Claire decided that now was the time for action. A friend recommended Slimming World and Claire said: “Having tried diet and exercise fads in the past, I felt slightly sceptical walking into my first group meeting, but other than weight, I had nothing to lose.

“Straight away, I was struck by the friendliness and acceptance of the other members who were non-judgemental and extremely supportive.”

Approaching 60 years of age, Jackie Hughson feels transformed now she’s lost over two stone. Jackie says “After last year’s summer holiday, I couldn’t fit into any of my clothes so I knew I needed to do something about my weight. My daughter had lost weight successfully with Slimming World, I had literally seen her transform before my eyes so I decided to give it a go and I haven’t looked back.”

Jackie and Claire both enjoy Slimming World’s Food Optimising system which allows members to satisfy their appetite with unlimited amounts of everyday foods such as fruit and veg, lean meat and fish, pasta and potatoes. Claire says: “Food Optimising fitted easily into my hectic life as a mobile hairdresser, mealtimes were often on the road to the next client’s home.

“I was absolutely delighted when I had lost eight pounds in my first two weeks. Suddenly, clothes from the back of my wardrobe fitted again and I felt more confident and happier than I had been in ages.”

Jackie adds: “Food Optimising is all about healthy eating rather than dieting. I discovered very quickly that I could satisfy my appetite and still lose weight; I can honestly say that I am never hungry. I can enjoy my favourite meals like a Sunday roast and curries, as well as being able to satisfy my sweet tooth.”

Claire and Jackie both agree that they couldn’t have succeeded without the support of their Slimming World group.

“Even when I reached my target weight I continued to attend my weekly group. I loved the friendship and support of my fellow members. My enthusiasm for Slimming World was contagious and many family and friends have now joined the group too,” said Claire.

Jackie added: “I always look forward to my night out at Slimming World. I get such a buzz from seeing others take control of their weight, hearing stories and swapping recipes. Weightloss isn’t always plain sailing; if you’ve had a week that hasn’t gone to plan everyone is there to support you 100%.”

Jackie is looking forward to introducing Slimming World to the Northfield community in her new group opening on Monday April, 27 at 7.30pm in the Northfield Community Centre.

“I would never have had the confidence to become a Slimming World consultant before losing weight and I can’t wait to help my members achieve their goals just as I have,” she said.

Claire re-launches the Mastrick Slimming World group on Tuesday, April 28 at 3.30pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm in the Mastrick Parish Church.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming all of the new and existing members and can’t wait to help them to feel so much healthier and happier too,” she said.
