Looking for a bungalow? This one is on the market for offers over £250k

Thanks to improvements in healthcare and changes in lifestyle, the UK population is getting older.

But with an ageing population comes a demand for a different type of housing with many over 65s wishing to own a home with no stairs, such as a bungalow.

This type of one-level housing was hugely popular in the 1960s and 70s but of late, it’s rare to see a new home builder offering this type of property for sale.

Recent reports revealed that in some cities and towns, there is a real shortage of bungalows for sale, which is why Dunard, a modern, detached bungalow on the outskirts of Oban, should attract a lot of interest.

The bungalow, surrounded by mature gardens, sits in a quiet, elevated position in the popular residential area of Glencruitten. The location means it enjoys fine views over Glencruitten Golf Course and the surrounding countryside, but is also just a few minutes’ drive from the centre of this busy and popular West Coast town fondly referred to as the “Gateway to the Isles.”

In great condition throughout and nicely decorated, this home benefits from gas central heating, double glazing, solar panels and Karndean wood-effect flooring throughout.

On the market with a guide price of offers over £250,000, the accommodation begins with an open porch that is an ideal space for storing equipment and outdoor clothing.

This leads into a split-level L-shaped hall which offers access to the well appointed open plan kitchen and dining room. Features here include a black resin sink and integrated gas cooker set within textured black worktops with matching splashback, while there are plenty of contrasting wooden floor and wall units.

The dining area has a large picture window and French doors which flood the room with natural light and from here there is access to a charming patio area that’s ideal for alfresco dining.

Spending time outdoors is very easy from this house as the spacious sitting room has been designed to take advantage of Dunard’s outdoor living spaces with two sets of French doors leading you on to both the patio to the rear and a timber decked area to the front. From here there are lovely views across the countryside and neighbouring golf-course to be enjoyed.

Last, but by no means least, the bungalow has a sizeable, floored attic space which is accessed via a ceiling hatch with built-in metal loft ladder from the hallway near the property’s glazed back door entrance.

Outside, the house has a well-maintained established garden with a lawn, large timber shed, and a driveway and parking space which can accommodate up to half a dozen vehicles, so plenty of space for visiting family and friends. This area is lit at night by two feature lamp posts, while concrete and gravel areas to the rear of the bungalow offer further parking space.

A combination of mature hedges and timber fencing surrounding the home ensures it is nicely private while the bungalow is reached via a private, no-through road.
