Spacious living

Cheryl Livingstone explores a charming traditional family home in Keith.

As I live in Aberdeen and have family north of Inverness, the A96 has become something of a regular route for me. It is also the first introduction I had to the town of Keith as the arterial road runs through it.

It is a delightful and picturesque town and one which has a bustling and lively high street filled with independent shops as well as a supermarket.
The town also boasts primary and secondary schooling and railway station. It has a range of sporting facilities, including shooting, fishing and an attractive golf course. Keith is also a popular tourist town, with the Strathisla Distillery being one of the stops on the Whisky Trail.

It is also filled with many stunning architecturally interesting homes. This one pictured here, Appin House at 15 Regent Street, is a great example. And for around £250,000 – £25,000 below the home report value – it is also a great bargain too.

The large period stone home is run as a bed and breakfast but would easily make someone a charming home.
With five bedrooms and four en suites, arguments such as who gets in the bathroom first would be a thing of the past and there is plenty of space for a growing family.

It has been kept in a lovely condition by the owners with the decor complementing the historic aspects of the home.
Rooms of note include the lounge – an elegant room with two window and a traditional solid oak fire surround with slat hearth and open fire – the contemporary kitchen with breakfast bar and plenty of storage and worktops, the dining room with wood feature fire surround and timber ceiling beams and a delightful conservatory with an exposed stone wall.

With so much space, it has been suggested that part of the house would be ideal to be used as a granny flat, particularly as there are two kitchens.

Outside the private garden is tiered and includes a patio area and there is also a timber shed and external tap. There is also a garage accessed from Wellington Terrace.
