Wild in the country

Enjoy the best of both worlds with a move to Maryculter, writes Cheryl Livingstone

Before I moved to Aberdeen, I never realised that just by driving mere minutes out of the city centre, you could be surrounded by stunning countryside.

And there are lots of little villages, hamlets and suburbs where you could live and enjoy this beautiful location and yet still be close to the city centre. It’s the best of both worlds really.

Maryculter is one of these places. This quiet rural community is located south of the River Dee and just six miles from Aberdeen.

Close by are the villages of Cults and Culter which offer a wide range of facilities as well as regular bus services to the city centre. Aberdeen International Airport is within easy reach and the open spaces of Deeside offer seasonal sports for all ages.

And I have found the perfect home to enjoy this idyllic setting from – Brampton Steading, Cockley, Maryculter.

This stunning home, on the market for a fixed price of £750,000, is one of a hamlet of properties built by Forbes Homes in 2004 to a very high standard.

Among its many selling points is its imaginative layout, good-sized rooms with large windows ensuring a good flow of natural light and a fresh, neutral decoration and excellent storage throughout.

The sitting room is a particularly pleasant room with feature fireplace with open chimney, two windows and french doors leading to the garden, while the formal lounge has a dual aspect and provides an ideal area for entertaining.

The heart of this fine home is surely the stunning dining kitchen which is fitted with an extensive range of stylish units with co-ordinating worktops, central island unit with granite worktop and integrated appliances – a budding chef’s dream.

Upstairs, you will find the master bedroom which is a great size, has lots of storage space and best of all, is a great place to enjoy the lovely countryside views. It also as an en suite shower room.

Bedroom two was originally two rooms but has been made into one, thus is extremely spacious and is flooded with natural light thanks to two windows to the side.

The further three bedrooms are also a great size with some having fitted wardrobes and could be used for different purposes. Bedroom three, however, is the one that you will find family members fighting over as it comes with something a little extra – french doors leading to a small balcony area with a timber staircase leading to the garden.

Bedroom four also has something special in the form of a feature fireplace with open chimney, two windows where you can enjoy views of the surrounding area and a Velux window.

The steading is surrounded by around 0.68acres of grounds and includes an entrance driveway with plenty of space for a number of cars.

There is also a substantial granite detached garage with pitched roof, light and power and two remote-controlled up-and-over doors.

The garage has a fixed ladder leading to a large storage area within the roof space. It is thought that it may be possible to convert the garage into a studio or granny flat, although prospective purchasers would have to obtain the necessary planning consents in this regard.

It means that this home offers both a place which is ready to move into and also allows someone looking for some kind of project a chance to put their own stamp on the home.
