Once a Victoria railway station building…now a fantastic family home

A property conversion that’s followed all the right lines can be found at Blacksboat Station at Ballindalloch, Glenlivet.

Once a Victorian railway station building, it has been beautifully converted to become a superb stylish and unique two bedroom home that’s full of character.

The station, which opened to welcome passengers in 1863, was once a stop along the scenic and beautiful Great North of Scotland Railway line, which closed in 1965. This ran through Speyside, from Boat of Garten to Dufftown via Nethy Bridge and Grantown East, running along the River Spey for long stretches.

Today, steam trains still operate on part of the track, departing from Aviemore on to Boat of Garten and Broomhill Station, Nethy Bridge, which starred as the fictional station Glenbogle in the popular TV series, Monarch of the Glen. Today it’s walkers who can be seen going full steam ahead past the house as this stretch of the old railway line forms part of the Speyside Way walk.

Thanks to an intelligent conversion, the house looks very traditional outside, but inside it’s sleek, chic and modern. Renovated into a holiday home by the current owners, it offers light, bright and generous accommodation. The cottage is fully double glazed and the accommodation comprises an open plan sitting room/kitchen with oak flooring, oak doors, and charming wood burning stove.

There is a lovely kitchen which has a Belfast-style sink while the kitchen units are topped with wooden worktops. There is also a fridge, dishwasher and a washing machine to be included in the asking price of offers over £195,000. There are two double bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room and the other with an en-suite WC, plus a family shower room which completes the accommodation.

There are simple wooden shutters on the windows which allow an abundance of natural light from the south/east to stream into the building and there is car parking to the side of the house. The property also comes with a stretch of railway platform and a shed.

Along with being adjacent to the Speyside Way, Blacksboat is close to the River Spey, one of the most famous rivers in Scotland. The nearest town is Aberlour which is around six miles north of Blacksboat. This pretty town boasts many amenities including primary and secondary education, a range of shops and restaurants, a medical centre and a community centre.
