Inverness College UHI has bolstered its senior management team with the appointment of Gillian Berkeley as head of curriculum.

Gillian, 52, who is originally from Dundee, has joined the team from Moray College UHI where she was assistant director of curriculum and quality. Originally a secondary school science teacher, Gillian’s career in education spans over 30 years.

She joined Moray College in 1991 and while there she pioneered the delivery of networked science degrees by video-conferencing throughout the Highlands and Islands, and co-founded the Moray Science Festival. Outside her role, Gillian chairs the Royal Society of Chemistry’s education division for the Scotland region.

Speaking of her appointment she said: “The post of head of curriculum at Inverness College UHI is an exciting opportunity, given the college’s forthcoming move to its fantastic new facilities at Inverness Campus and Balloch. I am very much looking forward to playing a role in the further development of Inverness College as the largest partner in the University of the Highlands and Islands network.

“In this role I will oversee the continued development of an innovative, employment-focused curriculum that has the quality of the student experience at its heart. Our curriculum is constantly evolving to fulfil current and future skills demands, so I am also keen to continue our engagement with employers, schools and other stakeholders to strengthen our relationships for the benefit of our region and our students.”

Diane Rawlinson, principal and chief executive at Inverness College UHI, welcomes Gillian’s arrival at the College.

She commented: “We are delighted to have Gillian join the senior management team at Inverness College UHI. She brings with her a wealth of experience and talent that will help develop our well-established and thriving provision even further. Gillian is a skilled leader of teams and a knowledgeable practitioner who will make a significant contribution to our work.”
