2017 hair trends… And how to achieve them at home

Post Thumbnail

From unruly, blunt fringes, to straight, shiny, center-parted hair, 2017 is full of modern hair trends bringing out bold, voluminous hairstyles, which will compliment even the most sophisticated of looks.

Looking to this year’s top trends, award winning Aberdeen hair and beauty salon, Linton & Mac, which boasts a unique London-style style bar, outlines the top hairstyles to look out for in 2017, and how you can achieve the looks at home…

Beatnik Braids

Pintrest - Beatnik Braids (2)

After the ghetto gangsta tight Dutch braids of 2016, this year is going to see braids become much looser, more romantic, and a whole lot more French. The French braid is flat to the head – hair will be plaited – then teased out and made to look undone giving the braids a second day, slept-in look.

Braiding on braiding will also be a huge trend for 2017, with smaller braids sitting alongside chunky ones. Braiding will look very beatnik and bohemian.

What products to use to achieve the look:

· Windle and Moodie Fortifying Spray to prep

• Windle and Moodie Thickening Cream to give body and reduce slippiness

•   Finish with Windle and Moodie Light Shine Spray

Topsy-Turvy Pony

Pintrest - topsy turvy pony

Hair is sleeked back to the nape of the neck to form a regular pony and secured with a band. The band is then pulled down the ponytail slightly, creating enough room to pass the hair through itself in the middle above where the band is sitting – this gives the pony its twisted look.

The topsy-turvy pony is a popular look at the Linton & Mac style bar, and can be manipulated in numerous ways to achieve a range of looks.

What products to use to achieve the look:

•   Prep with Windle and Moodie Foundation Spray

•   Mix Windle and Moodie Cream Sheen with Smoothing Oil to sleek hair back

•   Spray Texture Spray through pony only to add interest and texture

Undone Waves

Pintrest - undone waves

Loose beach waves can be created by using the Daphni brush, or Windle and Moodie straighteners. Glide the styling tool through the middle section of the hair only, leaving roots and ends natural/straight. Tousle and mess hair to finish the look.

What products to use to achieve the look:

•   Give hair texture with Windle and Moodie Oceanic Spray

•   Add grit with Windle and Moodie Texture Cream

•   Finish with Matt Texture Spray

Gents Fringe Appeal

Crew the sides tight and short, whilst focusing on the fringe. Whether hair is long or short, wear textured and onto the forehead for a modern, urban finish.

What products to use to achieve the look:

•   Windle and Moodie Volcanic Ash Wax adds definition and dryness without shine, letting you manipulate your hair all day long
