Musical tribute to Buchan: North-east artists come together for album

The Oxbows Lake Band

A group of north-east musicians have come together to create a tribute to the region.

Under a newly-formed local label, Village Sunsets Records, artists from across Buchan have contributed to the music album, including folk band Fishers of Gold, Banff chef-turned-musician Omar Afif and even Cruden Bay postie Lynne Taylor.

Towns represented include Peterhead, Banff, Keith and Turriff.

But the most notable of the groups to offer their work to the effort is perhaps the Oxbow Lake Band, who have headlined boutique festivals and events throughout Scotland.

The album – Buchan Sunsets – will be released later this week.

A spokesman for Village Sunsets Records said it would be the first in a series of compilations from artists from across the north-east.

“Some of the best album releases from around the Buchan area have been pillaged for a track or two, hence the Fiona Soe Paing and The Carousels track, with kind thanks to them and their record companies,” he added.

“We really hope this provides a snapshot of the fantastic talents of the musicians of this region and leads to further unique collaborations.”

The Oxbow Lake Band is an eight-piece band from Collieston.

They have performed at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, Wizard Festival and both the Stonehaven and Montrose music festivals.

The have contributed the song Neanderthal Blues to the album.

Other musicians featured on the album include retired teacher Alan Davidson, Banff poet John Mackie and Keith electronic musician Fiona Paing.

Buchan Sunsets is available to download from March 25 at the label’s website: villagesunsets.bandcamp.com
