Influential 70s rocker to perform in Elgin

Aberdeen Jazz Festival.
Aberdeen Jazz Festival.

A musician who made his name with one of the most influential rock bands of the 1970s will perform in Elgin tonight.

Peter Fenton rose to fame playing the guitar in Siouxsie and the Banshees, and helped pioneer the “post-punk” movement.

Mr Fenton will join members of the Moray Jazz Club this evening at Elgin City FC’s social club. He will be playing alongside his new group, The Fenton Experience.

The band is known for playing famous American songs, and lists Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder as major sources of inspiration.

Mr Fenton will be joined by Nick Gould on tenor sax, Steve Grossart on piano, Iain Harkness on bass guitar and Kevin Dorrian on drums.

Doors open at 7.15pm, and there will be music from 8pm until 10.30pm.

Siouxsie and the Banshees formed in London in 1976, and their single Hong Kong Garden reached the UK top 10.

The band parted ways in 1996, but musicians such as Joy Division’s Peter Hook, The Smiths’ Johnny Marr and U2’s The Edge have hailed them as influences.
