An expanded Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival will continue in Oban today.
The event, which normally finishes on the Sunday, has been extended to cope with the high volume of participants in the Highland dancing and choreography competitors.
Choreography competitions are being held at the Corran Halls today.
A wide range of competitions in singing, dancing and musical instruments took place at 22 venues throughout the town.
Breege Smyth , festival committee chairwoman, said: “It went superbly well. We have got an extra day because of the volume of competitors we have in the dancing section.
“It has really exceeded our expectations. We have had a healthy fringe event with ceilidhs and other entertainment.
“There was a really great atmosphere. We had highland dancing and piping at Stafford Street and Station Square.
“This really added to the crowds because it let visitors to the town who were not there for the festival know about all of the competitions happening in the halls.
“We had good numbers at the accordion and fiddlers masters in St John’s Cathedral on Friday night.”
The festival kicked off on Thursday night with Oban High School Pipe Band playing at McCaig’s tower.
Latest figures show that the event, now in its 34th year, generates £3million annually for the town’s economy.
More than 1,000 competitors took part and the competitions for piano, clarsach, woodwind, brass, fiddle, accordion and piping regularly attract some of the best musicians around, from as far afield as the US.
