A youth band has lined up a weekend extravaganza next month to celebrate a quarter of a century entertaining audiences with infectious music.

Past and present members of Moray Concert Brass will join forces in Elgin to participate in a series of concerts.

A colourful programme of music from a variety of hit movies has been arranged with children invited to come along in fancy dress.

Band members will be kitted out as their favourite characters while playing hits from Frozen, Ghostbusters and The Jungle Book.

The youthful theme will follow a special gala event featuring a return for Rex Richardson. The soloist, who is among the most renowned trumpet players in the world, also performed to help the group celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The ensemble now embarks on regular tours of Europe and will be heading to Holland for 10 days during the summer.

Teacher Glenn Munro founded the band 25 years ago – and the conductor explained the party atmosphere would also be a rare opportunity to see acclaimed performers in action.

He said: “We’ve been very lucky over the years to attract world-class musicians to Elgin, so I’m delighted that – for this very special weekend – we’ve been able to continue that tradition.

“The weekend is a celebration of the band, but also the power of music to enhance education, bring communities together and make lifelong friendships.

“Former members of the band are travelling from far and wide to help us celebrate and we would like to invite the people of Moray to join us in what will be, I’m sure, a fun and musical filled weekend.”

The weekend’s festivities will be rounded off with a festive ceilidh.

Renowned trumpet player Mike Lovatt, who has performed with Robbie Williams, Eric Clapton and Michael Buble, will also feature on the weekend bill.

Mr Richardson added: “I had such a great time in Moray in the past, I was delighted to be able to come back for the band’s 25th birthday.

“It’s great to be able to work with the talented youngsters in the area and see them grow as musicians.”

The events will take place at Elgin Town Hall across the weekend of Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4.
