Last Loopallu to go out with a bang

Organisers of the popular Loopallu festival in Ullapool have revealed that this year will be the last.

Due to take place in the west coast village on September 29 and 30, they promise to go out with a bang.

A spokesman for the festival said: “With a heavy heart, we’ve decided that our thirteenth outing is going to be our last. There’s no time to be sad, it’s time to celebrate what has made Loopallu so special over the years. Time to celebrate how the little event with a big heart transformed a small west coast village at the end of the season, bringing millions of pounds into the economy over the years, and not to mention the priceless friendships established.

“It’s time to bring back some of our favourite acts over the years, but also introduce some new ones too; some established household names and some stars of the future.”

The View will return as Friday headliners to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album “Hats Off To The Buskers” by playing it in full, and Loopallu welcomes, for the first time, indie darlings Glasvegas who will top the bill on Saturday night.

Hunter and the Bear plus many new acts will also perform.

In association with Ullapool Book Festival the legendary Ian Rankin will attend, and children’s favourite Mairi Hedderwick makes a popular return.

Although camping is no longer available in the village, a local holiday park two miles from the venue has availability.

The festival spokesman added: “The whole team would like to say a big thank you to all who have come over the years, your support and enthusiasm made the event what it was and what it is. Loopallu may come back in the future in a different guise, but for now lets have a party one last time.”
