North-east singing star Terry McDermott is returning to his roots to help a cause close to his heart next month.
The Ellon-born singer-songwriter who now lives in New Orleans, is releasing a new album and has organised a series of concerts across Scotland.
And he will play a gig in Fraserburgh to raise funds for MND Scotland, after speaking to the Press and Journal about how his mother, Jean, succumbed to the degenerative disease.
He said: “Losing my mum was an incredibly painful time that changed the course of my life.
“She died in 2002, but it doesn’t seem that long ago to me and there isn’t a day goes by when I don’t think about it.
“When I see other people suffering from the disease, it is very tough knowing what they are facing and going through.
“So if I can do anything to help people learn about MND and help the efforts to fight it and find a cure, I am delighted to have that opportunity.
“It makes me proud to support this important cause in my mum’s memory and this show in Fraserburgh means a lot.”
Mr McDermott, who went to Ellon Academy and graduated from Robert Gordon University, will perform songs from his new CD, Beautiful Destruction, in Nairn, Keith, Fraserburgh, Aberdeen, Tarves and Inverness between February 9 and 24.
The album was co-produced by Grammy award winner John Jones, who has previously worked with Fleetwood Mac and Duran Duran.
And it was mixed by Justin Armstrong, who has been involved with the Foo Fighters and the Dave Matthews Band.
Mr McDermott added: “Coming home to Scotland always makes me feel very happy and I’m excited about this tour.
“Making the record was a team effort and my fans are the ones who made it happen.”
In 2013, he shot into the public eye as a contestant on the NBC reality show, The Voice USA, and sung in front of TV audience of 15 million people during the season finale.
