The Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) continues its successful 2014/15 season at Aberdeen Music Hall by making a welcome return to the city this month (January).
Following on from the critically acclaimed opening concert earlier in the season, the celebrated partnership of Alexander Janiczek and Llyr Williams returns with a signature programme at the Music Hall on Saturday, January 17, at 7.30pm.
The programme will include Stravinsky’s Concerto in Re, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Symphony No. 31 “Paris”, and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
This follows the violinist Alexander Janiczek and pianist Llyr Williams’s hugely successful concerts with the SCO earlier in the 2014/15 Season, in which Llyr Williams performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 at the Music Hall. Llyr Williams has worked with orchestras around the world, including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra, and the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg.
With an encyclopaedic knowledge of the violin repertoire, Alexander Janiczek plays extensively as a chamber musician. As the complete modern artist, he is notably committed to exploring 19th-century performance practice, an interest that was established during the years working with Sir Roger Norrington at Camerata Salzburg.
Next weekend’s concert will also feature Jane Atkins on viola. An outstanding chamber musician, Jane has performed with many chamber groups including the Gould Piano Trio, the Allegri and Brodsky Quartets and both the Red Note and Hebrides Ensembles. Since joining SCO in 2008, Jane has performed Mozart’s Sinfonie Concertante with Alexander Janecek numerous times throughout Scotland. In 2012, Jane was the soloist in Sally Beamish’s Viola Concerto No. 2, “The Seafarer”, with performances in collaboration with the SCO and Paul Rissmann as part of the Masterworks series.
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra will also appear in Aberdeen on Saturday, March 7, for a concert in which SCO principal conductor Robin Ticciati will conduct Schubert’s Symphony No. 9.
