A couple have joined the top 10 biggest British EuroMillions winners after scooping a jackpot of more than £53 million.
They are in 10th place on the National Lottery’s UK rich list.
All top 10 winners bagged their millions with EuroMillions tickets, as, with nine countries contributing to the jackpot, the potential winnings are always significantly higher th an with the Lotto.
The EuroMillions draw has a top prize of up to 180 million euros (£131 million), whereas the biggest ever Lotto jackpot was £22.5 million – won in 1995 by Paul Maddison and Mark Gardiner.
Here are the nine other Britons above today’s winners in the top 10 list.
1. Colin and Chris Weir – £161,653,000
Mr and Mrs Weir, from Largs in Ayrshire, scooped more than £161 million in the biggest ever EuroMillions draw in July 2011.
The couple made a £1 million donation to the Scottish National Party and said at the time they were “tickled pink” to become Europe’s biggest-ever lottery winners.
2. Adrian and Gillian Bayford – £148,656,000
Mr and Mrs Bayford, from Haverhill in Suffolk, won more than £148 million in August 2012.
They separated a year later in 2013, with a spokesman saying their marriage had “broken down irretrievably”.
3. Anonymous – £113,019,926
A British ticket scooped a prize of more than £113 million in October 2010, but the winner decided not to go public.
4. Neil Trotter – £107,932,603
Mr Trotter, from Coulsdon, south London, scooped £107.9 million in the EuroMillions draw in March 2014.
The former car mechanic and motor racing fanatic went from oily rags to riches after winning the jackpot.
He said at the time he wanted to spend the money on his family, planning to buy his daughter a pony, his sister a house and himself a new racing car to replace his old Ford Focus.
5. Dave and Angela Dawes: £101,203,600
The Cambridgeshire couple had only played the EuroMillions twice before when they won more than £101 million in October 2011.
Mr Dawes, a former shift supervisor for Premier Foods, said at the time: “We were watching TV and the EuroMillions draw show came on so we kept watching, not thinking we would win anything.
“We got our tickets out and watched in shock as, one by one, the numbers came up on the line I’d chosen.
“We couldn’t believe it! It was too late to call Camelot so I kept the ticket on me all night until the morning but we didn’t sleep a wink.”
6. Anonymous – £84,451,320
A British ticket scooped the prize of more than £84 million in May 2010, but the lucky winner decided not to go public.
7. Anonymous – £81,381,673
A British ticket holder won more than £81 million in May 2013, but chose not to be identified.
8. Anonymous – £73,205,659
In May 2014, a British ticket holder won more than £73 million, but opted to remain anonymous.
9. Nigel Page: £56,008,113
Mr Page, from Gloucestershire, won more than £56 million in February 2010.
A self-confessed “white van man”, he said at the time that he celebrated his lottery win with a bacon roll.
He went on to marry his girlfriend, Justine Laycock, in a ceremony reportedly attended by no guests, with register office staff acting as witnesses.
