When it comes to packing, many of us face the inevitable question ‘Do I really need this?’

Our holiday is meant to be a time for relaxing but somehow days or (those who are organised in advance) weeks before we jet off, we manage to make the lead up to our getaway more stressful than we really need to.

1. Check the weather

It may seem like common sense but how many of us have actually packed sweaters, raincoats or waterproof shoes in our cases when the likely hood of bad weather is slim to none?

Why waste valuable space when you have the answer to the most important question at your fingertips.

2. Checklist

When it comes to ensuring you are packed and ready to go, there’s nothing more satisfying than a checklist for all those essential musts for your holiday! From a clean pair of undies to sun cream or phone chargers, make sure you are never caught out again.

3. Decant Toiletries

How many of us end up packing large bottles of shampoo, shower gel and mouthwash when we are going on holiday? Don’t you know how much space that can take up?
Save some space and decant what you will need only into handy travel size bottle and store in a zip-lock bag. Not only will your suitcase feel lighter, you won’t have the embarrassing issue of things leaking all over your suitcase and ruining your clothes.

4. Shoe Decisions

Ladies when it comes to shoes for your next holiday, the most you should ever need is 3 pairs – a comfortable pair of flats, a pair of heels and a pair of sandals/boots (depending if it’s a sunshine or winter holiday).  Any more than this you might as well take another bag just for your shoes.

Think back to your last holiday, how many shoes did you take with you and how many did you actually wear? So be ruthless, trust me, you won’t regret it.

5. Roll don’t fold

Outfit time! Decisions, decisions… When we are on holiday we usually have more than one outfit a day; one for activity during the day and the other for going out at night. When you have a small luggage allowance it can be a challenge to squeeze all those items of clothing we want in.

Folding your clothes may seem like a smart approach however, did you know rolling similar items of clothing together can save you space as well as keep your clothes organised? Give it ago, you’ll be surprised how much more room you’ll have.

6. e-Readers over Books

Whether you are relaxing by the beach or sitting in a café in Italy savouring the rich aroma of coffee, there’s nothing like reading a good book. The issue is when you have more than one book you want to take with you and limited space in the suitcase what do you do?

Well thankfully e-readers are here to save the day and the weight of your suitcase! Load as many books on there as you want and hey presto you can take your library with you, any time or any place.

7. Be Prepared – Carry On Bag

You’ve landed at your destination airport, you’re excited and ready to start your holiday… and then you discover your suitcase has gone on its own holiday. Your entire case lost to the realms of the conveyer belts in the depths of the airports of the world, what next?

Be prepared!

Carry-on bags make for great emergency kits. Pack yourself a clean pair of undies, a change of clothes and a few essential toiletries along with your phone, camera, passport and money, then that way whilst your suitcase is seeing the sights of the world before making its way back to you, you won’t be stuck for something to wear or miss those perfect camera moments.

If you stick to these simple tips, all that’s left for you to do is enjoy your holiday.
