Game Of Thrones fans, be prepared to get excited, as a prequel to the hit HBO fantasy drama series could be on the way.
HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys said the broadcast network is in talks with Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin about working on a follow-up, as the popular programme will come to an end after the eighth series.
Casey told Entertainment Weekly, when asked about developing a new show from one of the writer’s ideas: “I would say it’s still kind of preliminary ongoing talks.
“There are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn’t point to any one and say, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’”
Casey also hinted that there may be more than the reported six episodes in the final series, as he said: “I’ll take as much as we can get.”
The sixth series of Game Of Thrones aired this year, with the seventh set to thrill fans in 2017, before the final season follows in 2018, and it will no doubt be a devastating moment for all fans.
The multi award-winning show, which airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK, has won dozens of awards since it hit TV screens back in 2011, including nearly 40 Emmys.
Game Of Thrones stars the likes of Maisie Williams, Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner, Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke and is based on Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire novels.
Maisie, who plays Arya Stark, earlier this year told Thrones fans that “nothing will prepare” them for series seven.
