At 81-years-old, John Watson can remember waltzing round the Beach Ballroom on Aberdeen promenade.

His engineering job took him around the world, but 20 years ago he returned to the Granite City.

The great-grandfather is now preparing to leave Aberdeen for the final time as he is moving south to be closer to his five children, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

“I’m very sad to leave Aberdeen because I spent my childhood here, and I still enjoy a stroll round the Duthie Park,” said John.

“I’ve had great fun moving to different countries, including Saudi Arabia, but I’m Aberdonian through and through.”

He will miss his lovely two-bedroom home in Ferryhill, at 2A Bright Street, which retains traditional features, and is only a short walk from the city centre.

The home has high ceilings and ceiling cornicing, which are particularly impressive in the hallway.

The lounge is in need of modernising but has a great deal of potential.
There is a large bay window and a stone hearth fireplace, making this a particularly cosy room during the winter months.

You can also entertain guests in the dining room, which leads to the fitted kitchen.

Both bedrooms are of a good size, and the lounge could be turned into a master bedroom if desired.

The bathroom has a bath and separate shower.

Despite his age, John is still a keen gardener and there is a beautifully maintained garden to the rear of the home.

“I really enjoy gardening and it’s a bit of a wildlife haven as well, I love watching the birds nesting every year,” said John.

“The River Dee is only five minutes away. I hope someone else will be really happy here.”

There is ample on-street parking which does not currently require a permit.

The city centre is only a short walk away, as is Duthie Park with the award-winning Winter Gardens.
