Navy bomb disposal experts are being sent to deal with a suspected wartime landmine found on an Orkney beach.
The badly corroded disc – measuring 8ins x 10ins – was discovered at Birsay at 10.30am yesterday.
Police have closed he access road to the Brough of Birsay.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A cordon has been put in place and there is no threat to the wider public.”
Navy bomb disposal experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Faslane are due to arrive today to make the area safe.
