Police have confirmed they are investigating a thrill-seeker who climbed to the top of Buchan Alpha oil rig in Shetland while dressed as Spiderman.
The man put on a superhero costume and climbed to the top of the 300ft structure in Lerwick early on Sunday.
Hungarian artist Balazs Onhausz, 34, has since reportedly admitted to a national newspaper that he carried the stunt in a bid to take a “selfie” photograph.
However, since broadcasting his latest feat on social media, he has raised concerns surrounding the consequences he may face.
He is reported to have said: “I had no idea police were looking into what happened. I wish I could turn back time. I do regret it and hope it doesn’t go any further.”
However, police have confirmed they are conducting an ongoing investigation into the event and the security procedures which made it possible.
Chief Inspector Lindsay Tulloch, area commander for Shetland, said: “We would discourage such activity or demonstrations due to the inherent dangers of putting yourself in a position like this.
“This is private property and people who without in-depth knowledge of specific dangers associated with the site, will be prohibited from entry without appropriate authority.
“We are currently reviewing security arrangements with the owners, the person responsible has been identified and enquiries continue into any criminal conduct.”
It comes just weeks after a similar incident where pair of men boarded a deserted rig in the Cromarty Firth in August.
The men, who described themselves as “urban explorers”, took a boat out to the structure before filming themselves exploring and making food in the gallery.
Police confirmed they were investigating the security breach on the Ocean Princess, one of several offshore structures in the Cromarty Firth, while its owners, Diamond Offshore, confirmed an incident had taken place.
