All paws on as plans for north-east doggy hotel approved

Plans for a so-called dog hotel near Memsie have been approved by planning bosses.
Plans for a so-called dog hotel near Memsie have been approved by planning bosses.

Plans have been approved for the creation of a five-star dog hotel outside a north-east village.

The new kennels will be built within the grounds of an existing home near Memsie and are designed to offer accommodation for up to 10 canines.

There will an outdoor exercise area, underfloor heating and raised beds.

It is hoped the Mormond Dog Hotel and Spa project will also be the catalyst for new jobs with a full-time groomer and two part-time members of staff being employed.

Aberdeenshire Council planning officials have confirmed the venture can go ahead and said there were “no material considerations” why they should reject the proposals.

Six conditions have been set out by local authority bosses before construction can begin. These relate to road safety improvements and ensuring that the new property has adequate drainage.

Tracey Blix lives in the residence that would sit side alongside the new kennels and she submitted her own business plan as part of the application.

The document spelled out that the new venture would not be like any other accommodation for dogs.

It said: “We will promote a homely atmosphere, much different to the stereotypical kennels we all know, where dogs feel at home and dog owners can confidently leave their furry family members knowing they will be treated with the love and care they deserve.”

The dog hotel would also offer owners a chance to see how their pampered pooch is getting on through the use of in-house security cameras.

The document added: “Our tagline ‘A Home Away From Home’ reiterates our goal as a business – to give our canine residents a five-star experience as if they were at home, and being treated as part of the family.

“Along with all the fun and games, your dog will be able to enjoy the comforts of their own home with our highly unique rooms.

“Dog owners can go on holiday knowing that a dedicated dog lover is caring for them and even take a peek at their dog through our secure CCTV offering.”
