Ross County manager Derek Adams has laughed off suggestions he is a serious contender to replace Terry Butcher as the new Caley Thistle manager.

While some bookmakers have Adams on short odds to take over at Caledonian Stadium, the 38-year-old cannot envisage a time when a Staggies manager will cross the Kessock Bridge to take the Inverness job.

His sole focus is on lifting County above St Mirren in tomorrow’s rearranged game at Paisley after the first meeting between the clubs was abandoned after 52 minutes due to heavy rain on November 2 – with the Buddies 2-0 up.

Adams said: “I don’t think there are too many Inverness supporters putting money on me to become their manager. I can’t go across the bridge, I would never do it.

“I have a great loyalty to Ross County. It would be totally wrong for me ever to make that step. We have a fantastic set-up here and we have been able to build – and we are still building. I enjoy working here.

“But whoever gets the Inverness job has a fantastic base to work from and I am sure there will be a lot of people wanting the job because of how well they have done. They have started well this season and whoever comes up will be warmly welcomed up in this part of the world – until they cross the bridge.”

County aim to break their away duck at Paisley and leapfrog the Buddies in the Premiership table in the process.

Adams added: “A 2-0 win takes us above Partick and St Mirren and that is what we are looking to do.

“It has been a difficult spell for us, it has been stop-start. We have lost goals individually and that has been the frustration this season.

“We are looking strong as a unit and then just giving a goal away when the other team doesn’t even look like scoring.

“We are just looking for a wee bit of momentum and that is why we took the game on this weekend.

“We have a good spell of games now for the next two months. There are a lot of exciting games and none more exciting than Saints. It is great that no one else is playing because no other results can affect us.”
