Aberdeen vandals Christmas wrecking spree leaves resident “disgusted”

Brierfield Terrace
Brierfield Terrace

Vandals who caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to cars parked in Aberdeen are being hunted by police.

At least eight cars were badly scratched during the Christmas wrecking spree.

The cars were parked on Brierfield Terrace, Woodside, when they were damaged between 1.30pm on Christmas Day and 10.30am on Boxing Day.

The damaged vehicles included a silver Volkswagen Golf, a gold Volkswagen Golf, a silver Ford Ka, a blue Honda Civic, a black Skoda Superb, a silver Ford Fiesta, a silver BMW and a BMW X5.

One man, whose car was among those damaged, said he was “absolutely disgusted”.

The 76-year-old, who alerted the police, said: “The first I knew about it was Boxing Day morning.

“I usually check my car every morning and evening but I didn’t go out as usual the night before as, being Christmas, we were entertaining my son.

“I counted nine cars parked there and every one of them was damaged, most of them along both sides.

“We had such a lovely Christmas the day before but it was very upsetting to go down and find the car like that on Boxing Day.

“It spoils your Christmas – that’s the worst thing.

“And it will cost quite a bit to fix.

“I like looking after my car so it is heartbreaking when someone comes along and does something like this.”

Local councillor George Adam said car crime was “disgraceful and upsetting”.

The Hilton, Woodside and Stockethill member added: “People’s cars are very expensive to repair. It takes someone totally lacking in thought to do this.

“I just hope that if anyone has any knowledge about this, they will contact the police and share this information so that these people can be apprehended.”

The total cost of the damage is estimated at a mid four-figure sum.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
