Motorists in the north-east are being warned to expect further delays on some of the region’s busiest roads this evening.

Routes in Aberdeen city and shire were gridlocked this morning after freezing temperatures overnight coupled with snow showers caused roads conditions to deteriorate.

Temperatures as low as -8C are forecast for this evening in some regions of Aberdeenshire, however no snowfall is forecast.

Commuters travelling into the city experienced delays of up to an hour in some directions this morning, and the same could happen at rush hour this evening.

Journeys from towns such as Westhill and Stonehaven to the city took in excess of an hour.

The A944 Alford to Aberdeen road was gridlocked between Kingswells and Westhill, as was the North Deeside Road at Peterculter.

The A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie road and the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road was also slow-moving into the city.

Congestion was also bad around Garthdee, Holburn Junction, the Beach Boulevard and the Haudagain roundabout.

The B974 Cairn o’Mount road remains closed due to snow and ice.

Roadworks at Milltimber added to the delays with it taking some drivers two-and-a-half hours to get from Banchory to Bieldside.
